Financial Loan

MonTECH’s Assistive Technology Program offers a Financial Loan Program to assist Montanans with disabilities or their supports in obtaining assistive technology equipment to promote independence in family, community, school, recreation and work activities. Eligible AT equipment may include but is not limited to: devices for hearing, vision, and communication; computers and software; wheelchairs, scooters and mobility systems; electronic aids for daily living; recreational devices and modifications; and home modifications. Although we are unable to make loans for the entire purchase of a new or used vehicle, we can make loans for vehicle modifications such as hand controls or a mobility lift and may consider a loan for the portion of a vehicle purchase that is equal to the value of its modifications.

This financial loan program is designed to be an alternative source of funding for AT devices for individuals who may not be eligible for funding from other sources or for individuals who choose to take personal responsibility for AT-related costs. It is not a requirement of this financial loan program that applicants seek funding elsewhere prior to applying for a loan. However, it may be to an individual's financial advantage to first explore alternative sources of funding that may not need to be repaid. Full or partial funding for assistive technology may be available through another program such as Medicaid/Medicare, Veteran's Administration, Vocational Rehabilitation, Worker's Compensation, Indian Health Service, a school district, private insurance, and/or a community organization. Contact MonTECH for more information.

MonTECH has a partnership with Community Bank-Missoula to provide this financial loan program. Loans are available for eligible Montana residents or military personnel and their families who are stationed in Montana. This program offers an interest rate equal to the prime rate in effect as published in the Wall Street Journal at the time the loan is made. By helping Community Bank understand AT, its purpose, and expenses, the program also offers an opportunity to purchase equipment that might not qualify for traditional loans. This program also provides a funding alternative to individuals who might not otherwise qualify for traditional loan programs due to no credit or poor credit history. Collateral and the conditions of loans will be determined by MonTECH and Community Bank-Missoula on a loan-by-loan basis. The equipment being purchased may be used as partial collateral.
