Education

MonTECH is Montana’s resource center for Educational Assistive Technology (AT) devices, information, training, evaluations, demonstrations, and supports.  Our qualified staff provides AT services to benefit students with disabilities of all ages and grade levels.  Working with professionals, students with disabilities, and their supports, we help identify appropriate AT to facilitate successful learning.  MonTECH's demonstration center and equipment loan program provide opportunities to evaluate AT devices before purchasing.

 As mandated by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), all students must receive a free and appropriate public education.  AT provides possible solutions to eliminate barriers and place students on the same learning level as their peers in school.  Devices available, including adaptive computer keyboards, mice, and large-screen monitors as well as augmentative communication systems and computer access methods can help students negotiate otherwise inaccessible learning objectives and display their authentic abilities.  AT is likewise beneficial to teachers, as it can increase the independence of students with disabilities, giving professionals time to work with all students.

MonTECH exists at the University of Montana Rural Institute on Disabilities as a resource center for educators, other professionals, students, and their supports.  We provide information and assistance, services, and technological resources to assist students at all age levels statewide.
