Financial Loan

The Assistive Technology Loan Program assists Montanans with disabilities in obtaining assistive technology equipment that supports independent functioning and participation in family, community, school, recreational and work activities. Assistive technology equipment may include but is not limited to: devices for hearing, vision, and communication; computers and software; wheelchairs, scooters and mobility systems; electronic aids for daily living; and home modifications. Although we are unable to make loans for the purchase of a new or used vehicle, we can make loans for vehicle modifications such as hand controls.

The loan program is designed to be an alternative source of funding for assistive technology devices for individuals who may not be eligible for funding from other sources, or who choose to take personal responsibility for the costs of their assistive technology. It is not a requirement of the program that applicants seek funding elsewhere prior to applying for a loan. However, it may be to an individual's financial advantage to first explore alternative sources of funding. Full or partial funding for assistive technology may be available through another program such as Medicaid/Medicare, Veteran's Administration, Vocational Rehabilitation, Worker's Compensation, Indian Health Service, school district, private insurance, and/or a community organization.

MonTECH has a partnership with Community Bank-Missoula. Loans are available for eligible Montana residents or military personnel and their families who are stationed in Montana. The program features an interest rate equal to the prime rate in effect at the time the loan is made. By maintaining funds on deposit to guarantee otherwise unsecured loans, the program also offers an opportunity to individuals who might not otherwise qualify for traditional loan programs. MonTECH has allocated approximately $250,000 to the program to serve as guarantee funds for individuals who would not otherwise qualify for a loan. Collateral and the amount of any needed guarantee will be determined on a loan-by-loan basis. The equipment being purchased can be used as partial collateral.
